2012 - Missouri Years II

Raymore

We decided to downsize, but to where? Nancy’s parents had downsized to a single-story home in Raymore, Missouri, in 2005. We came to visit them every summer and parked the RV and trailer just a few miles south in Peculiar. A few years later, Nancy’s father died. After living alone for a few years and becoming less and less mobile, Nancy’s mother decided to move into an assisted living facility in Lees Summit, Missouri, only 20 minutes from Raymore and where two of her daughters lived. We decided that her mother’s home would be ideal for our downsizing, plus Nancy would be closer to her mother and siblings, all of which lived within two hours of Raymore.

The housing market took a nose dive in 2008 and by 2012 it still hadn’t recovered. Nancy checked house sales in and around Brookside where the house was, and we knew what the house was worth on the market at that time, which wasn’t as much as Nancy’s parents had paid for it. So as to not create any problems with Nancy’s siblings, we informed them of what we planned to offer for the house. I personally felt some push back from them and we backed away from buying the house and went to visit my daughter in Madison, Wisconsin, for two weeks and my son in Geneva, Illinois for a week.
